Gap Year Opportunities

Learning Through Action's teams consist of two/three intensively trained 'gap-year' presenters led by a highly experienced teacher/facilitator.

We, and our 'customers', greatly value our 'gaps' – they contribute immensely to the development and quality of our behaviour and health workshops for children and young people, who respond positively to people who are closer to their own age and who clearly identify with the issues that concern them.

Our 'gaps' are vital to the imaginative and skilful delivery of the role-play that is central to LTA's methodology.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

You receive initial and ongoing training in presentational and communication skills and learning techniques, in role playing, and you learn how to work as a member of an integrated team.

In a 'gap–year' with us you will come to experience working with upwards of 10,000 children and young people aged 4 to 18+, in some 120 schools – primary, secondary and special (and even perhaps a few preparatory and public schools), as well as in Pupil Referral Units, and possibly in some Youth Offender Institutions.

You will come into contact with hundreds of teachers and others involved with the care of children, including some parents.

You'll have many 'eye-opening' and challenging experiences.

We pay a fair monthly salary.

All in all, an invaluable foundation for anyone as preparation for any work or study career.

You'll be employed under a limited duration employment contract, usually running to 30th July. Most 'gaps' join us from 1st September, but there may be occasional opportunities for starting at other dates during the academic year.

Most successful candidates would qualify for university entrance, and many tend to be taking a year out between secondary school and going on to college or further training; a number have an 'A'-level in Drama; all can demonstrate a potential talent for role play and dramatic improvisation, are imaginative, are good listeners, energetic, have stamina and determination, and respond well to direction and interaction. Having a clean, full driving licence is a bonus.

You will need to know how to get up in the morning, as there are often early starts. You do need to be able to think on your feet, to be good humoured and self-disciplined. And to like and care about people, particularly children.

We can consider applications from overseas candidates, who are reasonably fluent English speakers, if they can readily secure a UK work permit.

We sometimes have opportunities for 'gaps' to contract for further periods after their initial contract, and for outstanding trainee presenters who are under 25.

Enquiries are welcomed throughout the year - CONTACT US.
However, it should be noted that most appointments to start 1st September are confirmed by mid-year.
