Active Learning At Its Best

What We Do and How We do It

What We Do ....

PSHE Workshop in progress

Learning Through Action researches the facts and creates and delivers interactive learning workshops. These are primarily for children and young people, but also for parents and carers, teachers, governors, and others working with and for young people.

LTA's interactive workshops focus on participation and two-way dialogue, on stimulating children and young people to think for themselves about their behavioural choices, and their consequences for themselves and others.

How We Do It ....

Anti-social behaviour session

LTA's interactive workshops are delivered by employed teams of intensively trained 'gap-year' presenters led by highly experienced teacher/facilitators. The workshops use role-play, simulation, hot-seating in role, and a range of dramatic techniques. The experience is expanded through the hands-on use of artefacts and other prepared resources.

They are delivered within a stimulating environment created with colourfully painted street scenes on portable screens - pictures of potential danger, of antisocial behaviour, of good neighbourliness, of local life - designed to trigger reactions and the questioning exploration of opinions and perceptions.

The effectiveness of what we do is constantly evaluated, internally and externally.

And Why ....

Active learning methods, as used by LTA, are ideally suited to engaging children and young people, and to addressing the vital social, behavioural and health issues of today. Schools do not have the time or the funding to do what we do.

As all the statistics show, what we do is desperately needed ....
